How We Install a Concrete Tile Roof
Structural Framing Assessment
Before anything else, we inspect the trusses, rafters, and decking and confirm they can carry 900-plus pounds per square. Homes built for asphalt sometimes need added support, and on custom or older homes we bring in a structural engineer. You get the answer in writing before you decide.
Tile Profile, Color, and Fastening Design
Concrete tile comes in flat, low-profile, and high-barrel shapes and a wide range of color blends. We show samples in natural light against your siding and stone, then design the fastening and batten layout for your roof's pitch and wind exposure.
Tear-Off, Deck Repair, and High-Temperature Underlayment
We remove the old roof to the deck, replace any damaged sheathing, and install a heavy self-adhered or high-temperature underlayment. On a tile roof the underlayment is the true waterproofing layer, so we specify it to last as long as the tile above it.
Battens, Flashing, and Tile Loading
Battens are set to the tile's exposure, and every valley, sidewall, chimney, and penetration gets custom metal flashing sized for tile's depth. Tile is then loaded onto the roof in stages so the structure is never point-loaded during installation.
Installation, Ridge and Hip Detailing, Final Walk
Each course is mechanically fastened per the manufacturer's high-wind schedule, cut tiles are set at hips and valleys, and ridge and hip caps are installed over a vented ridge system. We finish with a full roof walk, a site cleanup with magnetic sweep, and your warranty documentation.
